Hi everyone! I'll be spending my summer interning with EMB Interiors of Mandeville, LA. EMB is a furniture and home decor store that also offers deign services. It is owned by designer Ellen Bajon, who has a degree in interior deisgn from LSU. She also has Lauren, Jessica, and Charolette that work with her. Lauren is Ellen's daughter, she mostly works in the office answering phones, orderign materials, pricing and helps run the store. Jessica is the deisgn assistant, she also has an interior deisgn degree from LSU. She works with Ellen deisgning, estimating, and taking notes during meetings and talking with clients. Charollette, helps Ellen find materials and make selecitons for clients as well as helping Lauren with the sales floor. Ellen is constantly busy talking with clients, contractors, installers, and making selcetions. She is currently working on 3 new constructions and several remodels on top of building her own house and helping Lauren with hers. There is never a dull moment! Everyone works as a team to deisgn beutiful homes from start to finish. I am quickly learning that there is much more to learn in this feild then what can be taught in a classroom. While designing homes and workign with clients is the main focus, cordinating with installers, contrcators, manufcatures, and builders can be a much more difficult task. The buisness side of interior design is the biggest part of the residental industry. Knowing who to call to install floors perfectly, paint walls just right, and get the best prices from can only come from years of experience. Hopefully one day I will be just as knowlegable as Ellen but for now, I'm just a deisgner in training.
